The Regional Engagement Officer will support the day-to-day delivery of CQC’s portfolio of communications at a regional level in the region to promote CQC’s work as the protector and promoter of health, safety and welfare of people covering stakeholder, media, internal and engagement activities.

Work with colleagues in the regional engagement team to deliver joined up communications across the Care Quality Commission's four regions, covering stakeholder, media, internal and engagement activities in line with CQC’s corporate priorities.
Build working relationships with stakeholders, liaising with communications staff in NHS trusts, councils, individual providers, commissioners and public representative bodies and facilitating links between regional staff and stakeholders
Support the wider regional team on all aspects of communications activity, to provide a link between CQC HQ and the regions, and to help the media, the public and providers understand CQC's role
Manage and deliver comms activity at a local level in connection with the current inspection programme and CQC Insight activity.
Maintain information channels to systematically keep track of significant issues including inspection reports, enforcement action and all matters impacting CQC’s work.
Assist in keeping close working relationships and share intelligence, including horizon scanning with key stakeholders including NHSI, NHSE, CCGs, LHW and others.
Maintain a regional media profile, including online media. Promote the work of CQC’s inspectors to ensure a consistent approach to media information in line with CQC policy.
Act as first point of contact for regional media, providing support to regional staff on media handling and taking a lead when required on national issues.
Plan communications for significant reports, and manage stakeholder media interest in consultation with national media team.
Include full stakeholder management including councils, CCGs, NHS comms and Healthwatch.
Prepare well-written media materials including press releases, reactive statements and internal briefings, working with colleagues in the national media team as required.
Work with colleagues across all three inspectorates and with other directorates to keep them informed about CQC activity, and support the move to closer integration.
Build and maintain strong working relationships both internally and externally to foster engagement
Support inspectors to manage local relationships, or communicate with stakeholders at conferences, presentations, local provider associations
Enable local inspectors to use social media in line with CQC policy, to disseminate information on CQC activity.
Deputise for the regional engagement manager in their absence

Work across the wider Engagement Unit to support strategic engagement planning and delivery, including through Account Management

EssentialSkills and Experience :
Some experience in a communications role, preferably a multi-disciplinary role
Experience of writing copy for different audiences Experience of dealing directly with the media including dealing with sensitive issues
Strong verbal communication, networking and influencing skills
Good organisational skills, ability to work to deadlines and under pressure.
Able to work independently and as part of a team.
