Job Overview

TE Connectivity's Manufacturing and Process Development Engineering Teams significantly impact LEANPD driven new product development projects, driving for excellence in existing manufacturing technologies and methods and striving to implement new manufacturing technologies to provide improved process and tolerance control.

They act as the binding element between product development and manufacturing engineering, ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of this critical interface.

They support Product Development in the optimization of designs and piece parts for manufacturability by realizing sample tooling / products / prototypes.

They also design, develop, and qualify tooling and processes to meet TE quality and production standards, document all processes and tooling in applicable TE systems, support supply chain to verify supplier compliance and capability, initiate and implement programs to continuously improve quality, cost and cycle time and adhere to all appropriate specifications, regulatory requirements and customer requirements.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

The Mfg Development Engineer is a lead technical resource and process development engineer for new product projects and advanced mfg development projects.

These projects include implementing and optimizing the most effective technology, defining incremental process improvements and developing new solutions in the heat shrink tubing operations.

This person will lead the effort to develop and implement appropriate process control strategies for heat shrink tube process equipment.

Good organizational skills and ability to simultaneously lead several smaller projects or to lead a team of process technicians on a capital project is required.

This job requires excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills coupled with a strong technical background. Demonstrated ability to communicate and effectively implement optimized mfg strategies to all job levels is required.

Essential Functions

Perform engineering calculations with respect to material properties, speeds, horsepower, temperature, pressure, force, etc.

as related to machine and tool designs.

Analyzes Product Requirement specifications to determine best manufacturing routing in Operations dimensions, hardness etc.

in the development of equipment, processes and products.

Produces required tolerance analysis, process capability analysis and bills of materials for equipment.

Responsible for product cost estimates and resource requirements on new product launch tasks to the engineering manager and project managers.

Review product requirements with respect to extrusion and expansion processes and machine capabilities with Product Development engineering.

Determines tools, fixtures and equipment to be used in extrusion, cross linking, expansion and finishing processes.

Select appropriate purchase component for process tooling and create requisitions with appropriate delivery dates.

Examines project instructions and drawings to determine test specifications, procedures, objectives, test equipment and problems involved in designing, changing or re-arranging materials.

  • Lead process team(s) responsible for new product development project execution according to agreed cost, quality, product performance and timetable requirements;
  • prepares periodic status reports for management

  • Researches available technologies with the objective of improving product quality, reducing cost or increasing capacity;
  • develops sensible plans to evaluate, implement and then to audit the efficacy of completed technology improvement projects

    Develop equipment requirement and specification documents.

    Leads and implements process validations.

    Plans, executes, evaluates and documents New Product plant trials and completes summary reports.

    Minimum Qualifications

    5+ years of experience in various engineering fields relating to manufacturing, new product and process development, automation and equipment design.

    BS in Chemical or Polymer Engineering or related field, with focus on process development, polyolefin compounding and extrusion and automated systems.

    Experience with twin screw mixing / extrusion, co extrusion and applicable tooling, high shear compound mixing, highly formulated compound processing.

    Knowledge of polyolefin and fluoropolymer properties and test methods desired.

    Knowledge of Lean Product Development and statistical process control and Minitab is desired.

    Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presentations and public speaking; Fluent English speaking and written capabilities for ability to represent the Company, when required, on matters that affect Company operations and / or its products.
