Job Scope
TE Connectivity's Commercial Law Teams provide a variety of general corporate and commercial legal services including contracts, legal rights, obligations, and privileges.
They also review legal data and advise organization on appropriate legal action.
As Senior Counsel / Lawyer, you will act as the primary attorney for the Relays PSF sub-vertical business of TE’s Industrial Business Unit, a USD 550M+ division.
In this key role with global scope, you will also act as the interface between the Law Department and your internal clients from the Central Europe Sales teams of the IND BU.
As their business partner, you are the central point of contact for legal advice and risk management to the operating unit and, in particular, counsel to the business leadership team.
The position is ideally based in the Czech Republic, Poland or Austria from where the Senior Counsel will also act as key member of the leadership team of this division.
The position requires an active participation in the decision-making around formation of strategy and operating plans, together with all other aspects of running a sub-vertical organization.
This position reports directly to the BU lead counsel and indirectly to the General Manager of the Relays business.
Tasks Summary & Responsibilities
Legal Advice :
Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of commercial relationships and agreements, both with counterparties in the EMEA market, with a focus on the Central European markets, and in an international and cross-border context
Coordinate, monitor, provide advice and identify key issues in daily business and ad hoc projects
Collaborate with the company’s attorneys in other regions and other subject matter experts, in particular the IND BU legal team members on all interface matters between the Sales and the Relays teams and the other businesses and functions in IND BU, including on a global scale with Relays business partners, especially customers
Effectively promote a culture of compliance within the business, and in the EMEA region, including providing training and investigations support as necessary;
embrace a culture of compliance as a strategic differentiator for the business
Continuous training of the sub-vertical business and select groups of the Sales team
Operations :
Assist in all elements in the strategic execution of operations projects and manufacturing activities in the region
Act as sparring partner for the plant management teams at the key manufacturing locations in Austria, Czech Republic, and Portugal
Compliance Management :
ensure effectiveness of the company’s compliance program within the respective operating unit
provide compliance training in order to educate employees regarding company policies and compliance requirements
manage the BPM program for the EMEA region’s business partners
Claims Management :
provide legal advice on quality, warranty and product liability issues and manage outside counsel on the litigation of such matters, in close collaboration with the responsible product teams and the IND BU legal colleagues
Dispute Resolution :
manage disputes and provide guidance to management on the company’s exposure
Legal Policies :
support the continuous development of the legal department’s policies, procedures and templates
take ownership of TEOA related initiatives of the Law Department and the BU legal team
Skills & Abilities Required :
Licensed to practice law with a law degree from a recognized university and solid academic records
A minimum of 5 years’ post-qualification experience, ideally two to three years in an in-house legal capacity, advising on commercial legal matters in an international environment
Strong interpersonal skills and a proactive work style; exercising sound judgement based on objective analysis, wisdom gained from experience, and key stakeholder input
Keen interest to develop an in-depth understanding of all aspects of the business, with a view to becoming a trusted adviser also beyond legal counsel, including strategic objectives, competitive landscape, product applications and macro trends impacting the business
Assertiveness and strong communication in negotiation settings; familiarity with advising senior executives on the above defined tasks and managerial courage
Fluency, both oral and written, in English and, preferably, one other major internationally recognized language, ideally German
Intercultural competence and work experience in a global business environment; flexibility to develop strong relationships with multiple departments in a large, matrixed organization
Exhibiting calmness under pressure; leading by example in crisis-like situations; seeks out, accepts and gives constructive guidance
Sharing ownership and accountability for the outcome of executive decision-making
