Purpose of role :

Reporting to the International Controller the International Business Controller will own the completeness and accuracy of the relevant Regional Balance Sheet in compliance with US GAAP and CDK policy, and related SOX controls, and will have day-

to-day responsibility for the external audit and other third party advisor relationships for the region.

This role will also work closely with the relevant Regional Finance Business Partner to ensure accurate accounting guidance is provided in support of forecasting and Regional Management decision-

making, as well as being the escalation point for any significant or unusual accounting issues from the Region to the Central Controllership Team.

Key Duties & Responsibilities :

Ownership of the integrity of the regional balance sheet and related internal controls :

  • High risk journal approval
  • High risk balance sheet rec approval
  • Ongoing balance sheet variance analysis / review for accuracy pre-close
  • Review and sign off of monthly BS variance analysis submitted to Central Controlling team
  • Report OOP adjustments to Central Controlling team and conduct root cause analysis / implement fixes
  • Own balance sheet variance analysis for quarterly deep dives (review BSC output; provide coaching to BSC teams; ensure complete / effective follow-up on action items)
  • Ensure regional compliance with accounting policies / promote awareness / provide training
  • Intercompany escalation point
  • IFRS Planning / Lease project support
  • Work closely with BSC / Central Controlling team to implement process improvements
  • Back up for Regional late journal approval
  • Provide input to BSC team on judgemental accounting issues pre-close, liaising with technical accounting, where applicable
  • Compliance

  • VAT / income tax compliance oversight for region (liaison with KPMG) / interface to tax team
  • US GAAP and Statutory audit oversight for region (liaison with Deloitte, KPMG)
  • Note : Central Controllership retains ownership for International Audit planning / governance / fee negotiations and audit support for revenue recognition

  • Responsible for Regional SOX compliance and remediation
  • Business partnering / forecast suppor t

  • Support cashflow forecasts / actuals
  • Interaction with (Regional?) FBPs :
  • Work with FBPs to resolve judgemental balance sheet related issues, and keep them informed timely of possible forecast impacts (excluding centrally owned activities eg restructuring)
  • Note : FBPs to provide information on Business reality / known facts / uncertainties, based on their interactions with the business;
  • Regional Controllers to interpret those facts and determine accounting required, and direct the recording of necessary entries by BSC

  • Training / raise general awareness of key accounting developments for FBPs and Regional Managers;
  • First point of contact for decision support / escalation to Central Controlling (excluding revenue related matters - dealt with through Revenue Accounting team)
  • Key Results Indicators & Measures of success :

    Measure of success

    Timely, rigorous and accurate resolution of balance sheet issues (amounts and presentation)

    Low volume of late adjustments

    Low volume of unrecorded / out of period adjustments, and those noted are low value

    Low volume / significance of follow up actions arising from Balance Sheet reviews

    Maintain strong internal controls environment

    Few / no SOX deficiencies, and any noted are self-reported

    Few / no policy violations, and any noted are self-reported

    Effectively manage the relationship with Auditors / other external providers

    External Audits / tax returns etc completed on time, without overruns

    Keep FBPs / FP&A informed of ongoing areas of investigation / potential impact on Forecast

    Minimal forecast to actual variances in relation to items handled by Business Controllers

    Skills / Knowledge & Experience

  • Good knowledge (including practical application) of US GAAP accounting
  • Previous exposure to SOX compliance requirements
  • Experience in group reporting
  • Experience in statutory accounts finalisation
  • Able to influence and communicate effectively at all levels, including external auditors / other 3P service providers
  • Able to develop strong relationships and working collaboratively with key contacts across the business e.g. Business Service Centre, Operations, Legal and Sales
  • Strong time management and multi-tasking skills
  • Proven drive to achieve the right outcome, in a time-pressured environment
  • Experience of working in a multinational group
  • Flexibility to travel
  • Essential

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent)
  • Desirable

  • Educated to Degree level, or equivalent
