Join Novartis today as Global Category Manager - Legal (IP) to support the Global Category Manager in planning and leading strategic, tactical and operational aspects within Professional Services, across divisions, on a global level and supports development of proposals for business decisions.

In this role, you will plan ad lead strategic, tactical and operational aspects within the assigned Professional Services sub-category (Legal), across divisions, on a global level and supports development proposals for business decisions.

Support for the sub-category of Legal includes use of legal-specific sourcing and spend data management tools. The role will also be assigned work in a secondary sub-category to ensure development of skills in across Professional Services for team coverage and career planning.

This role is also an opportunity for you to focus on the procurement of Intellectual Property (IP) related legal services.

Covering this role, you will also provide high value procurement solutions to the business and category strategies; support third party vendor selection, vendor development, technology management and performance measurement activities.

The Sourcing Manager, Corporate Spend, Professional Services ensures best-in-class delivery of external services and products in the assigned sub-category(ies) to support projects and to realize year-on-year productivity improvements, cost savings, and process improvements in close collaboration with the stakeholders in the business.

Your key responsibilities :

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to :

  • Support implementation of category or sub-category strategic goals from overall Procurement strategy / Ecosystem management.
  • Planning, organizing and managing projects taking into account priorities, resources, budgets, issues and constraints to achieve desired results;
  • defining clear project scope and objectives; utilizing software and tools to plan, track and report status.

  • Demand management. - Accountable to work with stakeholders to identify the most cost-effective ways to deliver business objectives.
  • Sourcing and supplier relationships management. - Executing the Source-to-Contract process including respective strategies, approaches and methods : Preparing and conducting fact-based negotiations.
  • Adapting tactics from a broad portfolio of negotiation strategies to achieve results that support business and Procurement objectives.

  • Manage relationships with stakeholders. - Analyzing specifications for optimization. Linking specification to customer value, challenging specification confidently.
  • Conveying messages clearly and convincing stakeholders.

  • Communications, change management & training. - Partnering with category manager to develop messaging or training (may include communciations, FAQs or training process) related to implementation of legal-specific procurement processes (i.e. Persuit legal eSourcing).
  • Minimum requirements

    What you’ll bring to the role :

  • University degree (a degree in law or paralegal education or procurement / supply chain a plus) with excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working in Procurement in a sourcing, category management or a supplier management role.
  • Understanding of corporate spend and legal services, in particular, Intellectual Property Legal, gained via working at or with corporate legal departments, law firms, legal service providers or legal technology providers would be considered favourable.
  • Good understanding of commercial supplier engagement models especially for complex services, inclusive of legal services or consulting and customized pricing / alternate fee arrangements.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Advanced analytical skills and knowledge of Microsoft Excel. We’re looking for a person capable of analysing, collecting and interpreting data to derive meaning, identify patterns, etc.
  • and presenting conclusions and recommendations derrived from the data in a simple and meaningful way.

  • Familarity with the legal specific tools, including electronic legal billing and legal data hierarchy (UTBMS coding) and legal eSourcing technology Persuit, a plus).
  • Experience in a corporate environment or understanding of operations and business culture of multinational company; strong sense for independence and self-drive;
  • curious mind and high motivation to learn.

    Desirable requirements :

  • CIPS certification or similar qualification.
  • Knowledge of data visualisation tools (e.g. QlickSense) a plus.
