Job Description Summary
The SMS Lead will be responsible for training, promotion, assurance, policy, procedures, processes, regulatory interaction and metrics associated with our Safety Management System for European states.
Roles and Responsibilities
Responsible for the theory, design, development and practical implementation of product safety engineering methodologies and techniques for equipment and devices.
Execute a process to identify and mitigate safety risks inherent to the product design to an acceptable level; conduct rigorous safety risk assessments, hazard evaluations, utilize human factors principles to drive design improvements in order to eliminate human error in the operation and maintenance of the product in the field
Requires specialized knowledge within the function. Influence the development of strategy for the area of responsibility, including control of resources and influences policy formulation.
Interprets simple internal and external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes or services.
Stays informed of industry trends that may inform work.
Uses high level of judgment to make decisions and handle complex tasks or problems in areas of operational, product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering.
Has ability to assess quality of information given and ask pertinent questions to stakeholders. Able to offer new solutions to problems outside of set parameters and is able to construct and provide recommendations.

For roles outside of the USA- This role requires significant experience in the Engineering / Technology & Product Safety.
Knowledge level is comparable to a Master's degree from an accredited university or college ( or a high school diploma with relevant experience).
For roles in USA - Master's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 6 years of experience in Job Family Group(s) / Function(s)).

Familiarity with EASA engine and aircraft certification process
TOPS8D and / or Apollo Root Cause Analysis trained
Familiarity with aircraft engine programs, customers and operations
In-depth knowledge of aircraft engine mechanical, control, and / or aero systems
Demonstrated capability for statistical data analysis and logical presentation of results
Extensive understanding of or experience with proactive system safety methodologies
Familiarity with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Advisory Circular 39-8, and / or MIL-STD-882
Strong computer skills and ability to work without close supervision
Demonstrated process orientation and data-driven technical preparation in approach to work
Ability to represent GE Aviation at customer reviews and industry safety groups to address propulsion system safety issues.
