What we’re looking for
We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join a team building our Data Platform and centralized Data Lake. This team develops scalable distributed systems that process massive datasets from diverse sources.
We’re looking for someone with a high standard of technical excellence who is ready to collaborate and lead in creating solutions to hard data problems.
What you’ll do
Design and implement data storage structures and scalable distributed ETL pipelines to bring disparate data sources into a unified data lake in AWS cloud
Leverage tools for building distributed systems such as Kafka, Spark, Parquet, Aurora, Cassandra, Redis, SQS, SNS, S3, and more
Replace legacy systems with more modern and up-to-date data pipelines and operational systems
Contribute and review architectural designs for scalable, extensible distributed systems
Influence technical strategy via research, experimentation, POCs, and prototypes
Mentor less senior members of your team
Demonstrate empathy, respect, professionalism, and fairness in everything you do
Job requirements and qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, related technical field, or equivalent work experience
4+ years of experience in a data engineering role, preferably within a fast-growing SaaS business, using one or more of : Java, Python, and / or Scala
4+ years of experience engineering software that leverages cloud computing platforms (preferably AWS) and container orchestration (preferably Kubernetes)
2+ years of experience architecting and implementing scalable distributed systems that process massive amounts of data
1+ years of experience of contributing thought leadership, including creation and review of architectural designs, and mentorship for junior engineers
Deep understanding of the tradeoffs for various types of databases such as relational, key / value, columnar, etc. and their use cases such as data warehousing, data lakes, caching, etc.
An appreciation of engineering rigor and non-functional requirements
An appreciation of a respectful and empathetic team culture
Fluent knowledge of English (written & spoken).
Must be authorized to work in the Czech Republic
Additional / preferred skills (but not required) :
Experience with AI / ML techniques
