The Red Hat Customer Experience and Engagement (CEE) team is looking for a solid Software Maintenance Engineer to join our worldwide support team in Brno, Czech Republic.

In this role, you will become part of a fast-paced innovative company that is changing the way software is developed, sold, and supported.

You’ll help us resolve the issues of our enterprise customers quickly and effectively, providing high-level technical support and sustaining engineering services designed to maximize uptime and reduce IT costs.

As a Software Maintenance Engineer, you will maintain close working relationships with our customers’ top developers and architects and assist our front-

line support engineers with the most complex and challenging issues. You’ll be in daily contact with our R&D team, allowing you to regularly work alongside some of the best open source developers on the planet.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Resolve complex customer problems within Red Hat system management offerings like Red Hat Satellite 5 and Red Hat Satellite 6
  • Analyze upstream development against current customer reported defects and develop patches to resolve issues
  • Use available tools to investigate and troubleshoot technical issues
  • Record customer interactions to include investigation, troubleshooting, and the resolution of issues
  • Work closely with Red Hat's production support engineers, technical account managers, and the development engineering team
  • Assist in the development of comprehensive and reusable self-service solutions for future incidents
  • Required skills

  • 3 years of experience as a support, sustaining, or development engineer or other directly related experience in an enterprise environment with corresponding Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) knowledge
  • Linux operating system installation, configuration, upgrade, and maintenance experience
  • Solid understanding of networking configuration (IP configuration, interface bonding, routing, firewalls, etc.)
  • General understanding of base packages included in the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) distribution
  • General understanding of DHCP, DNS, PXE, kickstart, and virtualization
  • General understanding of the Red Hat’s subscription model
  • Solid troubleshooting skills
  • Commitment to providing the best experience possible for Red Hat’s customers
  • Upstream involvement in open-source projects (patches submitted for upstream inclusion) is a plus
  • Experience with any of the following is considered a plus :

  • Ruby or Ruby on Rails
  • Python
  • Apache HTTP Server
  • Apache Tomcat
  • PostgreSQL or MongoDB
  • Puppet
